The region covers a short length of coast lined with white-sand beaches and stretches inland through the rural centre (Australia’s beef capital) into central Queensland. Just 15km offshore is beautiful Great Keppel Island, a place where the sand is so clean it squeaks underfoot.
About the role
As Senior Staff Specialist / Staff Specialist – Psychiatry (including Psycho-geriatrics) you will provide high quality psychiatry services to consumers of the Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Service and provide clinical leadership for the Mental Health clinical team. This position requires you have a solid background in psychiatric practice and can demonstrate extensive skills in facilitating effective mental health care across the continuum of Psychiatry of Old Age inpatient and community settings and within a multidisciplinary environment.
- The position may also be required to provide services to other Health Service and Outreach Clinics;
- Candidates with an interest in and/or certification in Psychiatry of Old Age will be preferred.
- Consideration may be given to General Adult Psychiatrists.
What is the hospital looking for?
Demonstrated competence and skills in psychiatry, able to manage a wide range of Psychiatry of Old Age presentations including across sub-specialty areas in acute and continuing care, in both community and hospital settings practicing contemporary evidence based psychiatry.
Strong leadership and negotiation skills to enhance working relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team, utilising a high level of communication skills for strategic and operational planning, problem solving and decision making.
Demonstrated ability or ability to rapidly acquire the skill to provide guidance to less experienced staff members and education to students.
