Locum doctor rates, April to June 2025

In July 2017, Zeep opened its doors to a bold new era in locum recruitment. Eight years on, we’re proud to be a trusted partner to both doctors and hospitals, helping to ensure healthcare services continue running smoothly and patients receive the care they need. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who’s been part of this journey, from the doctors who worked a single day to the dedicated medical administrators who ensure departments remain fully staffed. Thank you!

During the April to June quarter, overall demand for locum staffing increased across the board, reflecting growth across various specialties and grades. Notably, this increase suggests a shift in seasonal demand patterns, with peak periods beginning earlier and lasting longer. Our continued engagement with hospitals highlights ongoing staffing challenges and sustained pressure on services.

While some specialties experienced a slight dip in demand this quarter, levels still remain higher than at the start of the year, indicating steady overall growth, even if the pace has eased slightly compared to the previous quarter. Consultant pay rates continue to rise steadily, with registrars also seeing noticeable increases, particularly in medicine, where the demand surge has been most pronounced. As always, we remind doctors that state health services are under budgetary pressure, and as such, premium benefits such as accommodation, car hire, or travel costs may require individual support.

For this quarter, we’ve broken down pay rates by state. Consultants: highest rates in the ACT. Registrars: top rates in South Australia. RMOs: leading pay in the Northern Territory.
